6 VIOLAS

Águas paradas não movem moinhos is the first album by the viola sextet 6 VIOLAS, and an homage to the music of great singer and song writer José Mário Branco. Released by Respirar de Ouvido, it was premiered in 28th of May, at Auditório CCOP - Porto, a few days after the 80º birthday of José Mário Branco.

Musical direction and arrangements by José Valente.

Since the album release, 6 VIOLAS has performed this homage in several sold-out shows around Portugal, in venues such as: Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon), Teatro Garcia de Resende (Évora), Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett (Porto), Reitoria da Universidade Nova (Lisbon), Castelo de Leiria, etc.

In 2025, 6 VIOLAS was granted the Artes pela Democracia grant for the final tour of this project across Portugal.

José Valente, Sofia Silva Sousa, Miguel Sobrinho, João Tiago Dinis, José Freitas, Leonor Fleming, Edgar Perestrelo, Francisca Barata Feyo, Sara Farinha, Tânia Trigo, Joana Nunes, Gustavo Rebelo and Isabel Pereira.
