Established by José Valente (viola d’arco, musical composition) and Marta Bernardes (vocals), the duo PuLsO aims to inaugurate an open dialogue where the music does not accompany the poem and where the poem is not excluded from its natural musicality; where the word clarifies the pulse and the musical interval highlights a metaphor; where Marta Bernardes’ voice goes beyond the function of “diseur” and transcends the routines of the song, blending with the eclectic rebelliousness of José Valente’s viola d’arco.

Using several poems by contemporary authors such as Alberto Pimenta, Ana Hatherly, Salette Tavares, José Miguel Silva, Jorge de Sena, etc., PuLso thus explores the new Portuguese poetry music, which the duo has invented. Highlights include concerts at the Realizar:Poesia Festival; Fórum Internacional de Gaia; Espaço Miguel Torga; Museo Vostell Malpartida (in Spain, with a recital dedicated to Ana Hatherly); Casa da Música; Lopes-Graça Auditorium, among others. And some commissions such as “Rapa Tira Deixa e Põe” for the centenary of Salette Tavares, celebrated by Poesia.fm or “Amátia” by Jorge de Sena for the special issue of Flanzine, FLANZINE XXI – Futuro.
